Evaluation 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Originally I was inspired by Q magazine therefore I would have gone with normal conventions of a music magazine and made it more feminine but I wasn't happy with the outcome of my first draft as it looked a lot like a fashion magazine so therefore I changed everything about my magazine switching from Pop to Rock/Metal. I chose to do a Rock/Metal magazine because I felt like I could experiment and have more options with making one.

I went against normal conventions of a music magazine with my front cover. Magazines such as Q magazine remind me of a fashion magazine and recreating a magazine similar to Q magazine can easily cross the fine line between fashion and music. Q magazines and more are very stylish and up-to date with the latest trends, they're not very busy and focus a lot on the person on the cover of the magazine. I wanted to equal out my magazine by not just making the artist important but the rest of the magazine crucial too.

Instead of using endorsement just for one celebrity I used multiple celebrity endorsement doted around my cover to attract a wider range people. I added in a barcode, a price and a bubble for posters inside to give it a realistic feel.  I used colours to identify my genre of magazine unlike using pretty colours like Q magazine I used vibrant in your face colours to attract my audience. I used the conventions of a Kerrang magazine with my colour scheme to sell the genre.

My magazine does not use conventional ways with my background image, as it's not directly in the centre of the cover, my cover is set out like a blog to make it busy. This therefore offers more to the audience. Magazines such as Kerrang use a blog style magazine cover.

I used many other artists and feature stories like Kerrang. This gives the audience a lot for it's money as it has more to offer. Not everyone who likes Rock/Metal likes exactly the same artist on the cover that's why I involved as many artists as possible to widen the audience who would possibly buy it. I added feature stories to give information to the audience.

For the contents page a lot of block squares to outline my writing to link this to my front cover as it has a lot of block squares on the page. The maximum number of pages I went to was 180 pages because magazines such as Kerrang has quite big magazines, I wanted to make my magazine as realistic as possible. I added images to link on my contents to link to the feature stories.

Throughout my double spread page I used the square boxes to link to the front cover and contents page. On this page I even included a grey box behind 'BAD ATTITUDE' to imply her happier attitude against the colour scheme I have used throughout the magazine so far.

On my double-spread page I used typically conventions because for the title I pick out "I WAS HEARTBROKEN AND ASHAMED..." to link to the front cover. I chose that title because many magazines made something out of the text that had emotion in it, to draw the audience in. I used a picture of BAD ATTITUDE looking happy this contrasts against her on the cover because she's out grown her past and is happy. She's proud of the things she has accomplished. I used a yellow box around the questions to navigate the important parts and where the audience should read first. I carried the colour scheme through the double-spread page to link it to the cover and contents, to identify that her genre of music is Rock/Metal.

Overall my magazine challenges typical conventions of a music magazine as it is more bold and different. During research of other music magazines they are simple and pretty to look at but my magazine intrigues the audience
